“Either you start talking or I start water boarding.” – Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) on SUPERNATURAL “Swap Meat”

Well that was not you’re A-typical SUPERNATURAL episode. Not by a long shot.

The funniest part of “Swap Meat” was the foreboding music that played throughout the episode. Totally out of place given the circumstances of the episode and the hilarious situations that Sam (Jared Padaleki) was placed in – a FREAKY FRIDAY body swap.

But I guess given the nefarious intentions of some of the young kid’s friends in the episode, I guess a case could be made for the droning music. Still, I found it funny that it was playing when Sam was at school as the boy or when the boy (as Sam) was totally out of character for Sam and saying a number of crazy stuff that he’d never say.

Anyway, this was just an OK episode overall. Nothing special by any stretch of the imagination as a group of high school students devise a less than coy plan to kill Dean in order to capitalize on a bounty that was placed on his head by demons. In return, the demons would grant the students a prize. Of course, since we know that demons are never one to keep their end of the bargain, when they try to collect things go south and quickly.

Luckily, the main kid that swaps bodies with Sam has a change of heart at the end and he sides with Dean (well he really didn’t have much choice after seeing a demon in action). Turns out the kid just didn’t want to follow daddy and his plans for him to go to MIT and be a successful citizen of the world.

Probably the biggest revelation to come from “Swap Meat” was that Hell is out to get Dean – probably
before he can become the vessel for the angel that will lead the war against Hell. What this means for the future we will have to wait and see.

It certainly doesn’t look like we’ll see any more of this next week as we go back once more into the past as Angel Anna travels back in time to kill the Winchester brothers parents in order to prevent Dean from breaking the first seal and Sam the last.

Hopefully it will be more interesting than this episode.
