| Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles auditions for Captain America? |
AMONG the news that recently emerged on the Captain America movie, director Joe Johnston did give away some casting details. He said they were looking for a “complete unknown” and also explained: “We’re testing five or six guys. The youngest is 23, the oldest is 32. Most of the guys in the war are just kids, 18 or 19, but we want to go a little bit older.” Since those remarks, the website Big Shiny Robot has published a piece citing a source who claims to know the names of three of the candidates: Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck) and Jensen Ackles (Supernatural). |

| New Batman DVD to peek out from ‘Under the Red Hood’ |
Plenty of of fanboys are anticipating the new Justice League DVD “Crisis on Two Earths,” which premieres on Feb. 23, but that disc will also give birth to a new DC must-see home movie when the Dark Knight saga “Batman: Under the Red Hood” launches one of its first promos. Written by Judd Winick and based on his 2005 Batman comics story line, it’s Batman versus another vigilante, Red Hood, who doesn’t mind cleaning up Gotham by leaving dead bodies in his wake. Animated guru Bruce Timm exec produces this pretty violent look into crime on the streets, and it’s directed by “Superman Doomsday” co-director Brandon Vietti, with a cavalcade of stars as voice talent. It all starts with Bruce Greenwood (“Star Trek”) as Batman, then continues with “Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles as Red Hood, Neil Patrick Harris (“How I Met Your Mother”) as Nightwing, John DiMaggio (“Futurama”) as the Joker and Jason Isaacs (the Harry Potter films) as Ra’s Al Ghul. | ‘Supernatural’ Video Preview: How Sam Met His Mother |
Next week’s Supernatural episode brings back Castiel, Anna and one very cool angel power: time travel. Unlike season 4′s “In the Beginning,” this time both Sam and Dean are traveling back in time to protect Mary and John from an assassination plot to prevent the boys from ever being born. After coming back from the long winter break, Supernatural has been stuck in stand alone episodes about a psychiatric hospital and body swapping, so it’s good to see the show getting back to the on-going mythology. It also means we’ll get to see young John and young Mary again, a few years after the events of “In the Beginning.” Check out these two new clips featuring the boys transporting back in time and meeting their young parents. |

| TV Review: Swap Meat |
A merely OK episode as Sam gets his own FREAKY FRIDAY. “Either you start talking or I start water boarding.” – Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) on SUPERNATURAL “Swap Meat” Well that was not you’re A-typical SUPERNATURAL episode. Not by a long shot. The funniest part of “Swap Meat” was the foreboding music that played throughout the episode. Totally out of place given the circumstances of the episode and the hilarious situations that Sam (Jared Padaleki) was placed in – a FREAKY FRIDAY body swap. But I guess given the nefarious intentions of some of the young kid’s friends in the episode, I guess a case could be made for the droning music. Still, I found it funny that it was playing when Sam was at school as the boy or when the boy (as Sam) was totally out of character for Sam and saying a number of crazy stuff that he’d never say. |

| TV Review: Sam, Interrupted |
A demon is feasting on mental patients and the Winchester brothers check themselves in. Something is feeding on crazies at a mental facility and the Winchester brothers go in to investigate on the latest episode of SUPERNATURAL, entitled “Sam, Interrupted.” Now, we did get a good bit of revelations about why Sam (Jared Padalecki) is just so damn angry all the time and he comes to the realization that it is his fault, he has been blaming everyone and everything for his own issues – the demon blood, Ruby, the apocalypse, name it. Instead, he should be blaming himself for having gotten himself into this situation and what’s happening everywhere. That came at the end and it is almost too bad that they didn’t focus on the mythology a bit more in the first episodes since November since while we didn’t forget, so much has happened it would be nice to see a little progression of the series. |

| ‘Supernatural’ Season 6 Talk Resurfaces at TCAs |
Every time CW president Dawn Ostroff takes questions from the press, we always get the same debate: will there be a sixth season for Supernatural? Over the weekend, Ostroff spoke at the January press tour for the Television Critics Association, and once again she was asked whether season 6 is going to happen for Supernatural. While there’s little new in her answer, things are definitely looking up for fans who want more Sam and Dean. Ostroff talked about how pleased she is with the creativity of the writers this season, the boost in ratings, particularly among women, and the fact that Supernatural is a very good fit with the network’s newest hit, The Vampire Diaries. She also talked about creator Eric Kripke. While every fan knows that he came into the show with a five-year plan, Ostroff believes he has more than enough talent and creativity to keep Supernatural going, as does his writing staff. According to her, Kripke is keeping a very open mind about a possible season 6. |
