| Jensen Ackles in ‘My Bloody Valentine’: Down the (mine)shaft? |
Here’s a question for all you Supernatural/Dean Winchester loyalists who trooped to the cineplex over the weekend: Did My Bloody Valentine 3-D leave you wishing you’d snuck into Notorious instead? (If you could get in, that is. The Biggie biopic was sold out at my inner-city movie house and, in fact, was neck-and-neck with MBV for the No. 3 box office spot.) At the showing I attended, I distinctly heard giggles — whether they were for the cheesy 3-D F/X, the Swiss-cheese story holes (leaves on trees in February?), or Jensen Ackles’ 1-D glower of a performance, I had no idea. Even this hardened gorehound didn’t expect much from a bare-bones remake of the ’80s knockoff of Friday the 13th (which arguably knocked off Italian great Mario Bava‘s 1971 Twitch of the Death Nerve), but c’mon: Where did Jensen Ackles bury the bad-boy charisma that lent spark and snap to even the less-inspired episodes of the CW series? One can almost understand why he’d phone it in, given the constraints of the role, a cliched script, and the absence of straight-man Jared Padalecki to play off. |

| Jensen Ackles’ Not-So-Hot Love Scenes |
He’s a hit battling evil forces on CW’s Supernatural, and now you can catch Jensen Ackles on the big screen facing a monster minerwho swings a mean pickaxe in My Bloody Valentine 3D. It’s one more step toward stardom for the hunky guy from Dallas who got his start on Days of Our Lives and went on to Dawson’s Creek, Dark Angel and Smallville. Q: There’s a lot of in-your-face violence, not to mention blood and gore, spurting off thescreen in 3D. Is it a good thing for the audience to be ducking body parts? A: I would say it gets a little ugly. But it wouldn’t be a good old-fashioned slasher movieif it didn’t. We tried to push the envelope a little bit and have things flying right at you. Butthat’s what makes it a fun ride. It’s definitely cooler and more frightening in 3D. |

| Is Supernatural Safe? |
What are the chances your CW faves will survive for another season? The official verdict won’t come down until the upfronts in May, when the networks unveil their new fall schedules, but CW president Dawn Ostroff is offering up a little early information. Will Supernatural survive to hunt demons another day or could the Winchester boys go down before their time? We’ve got the info and the odds… SUPERNATURAL According to Ostroff, “We’ve been creatively really happy with the show. The show’s been holding its own. I hope it continues to do well because I’d love to see it back.” Predicted Response to Supernatural Cancellation: 10 on the fan Richter scale |

| Video Clips from Episode 4.11 “Family Remains” |
Supernatural finally returns with new episodes on January 15 at 9pm. It’s been a long wait since Dean broke down after admitting the truth about his time in Hell, but this next episode seems to put the angels and demons story on the backburner for a good, old-fashioned horror show. In “Family Remains,” Dean and Sam try to protect a family living in a haunted house. It’s a simpler, more traditional horror plot than writer Jeremy Carver is used to: his recent episodes include such wild rides as “In the Beginning” and “Mystery Spot.” The CW released two video clips from this episode, and they show Supernatural rediscovering its horror roots. In this creepy first clip, a little kid tries to befriend something hiding in the shadows. The scene is pretty creepy without showing anything scary, which is one of the oldest lessons in great horror films: less is more. |

| Jensen Updates Us on the Fate of Supernatural |
The hit series Supernatural will return this Thursday with an all-new episode entitled Family Remains. At this current moment in time, the show, which revolves around spooking hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester, is experiencing a huge spike in ratings and it is proving to be more popular than ever. We recently met up with Dean Winchester himself, Jensen Ackles, to find out what we can expect to see during the second half of season four. Sadly, he doesn’t know any more than you do, “I don’t know. You tell me. I’m never quite sure what is going to happen. Eric Kripke keeps me in the dark. I don’t know what we are going to shoot until we shoot it. So, the end of this season is as much of a surprise to me as it is to you.” He went on to explain the fate of the series as he knows it, “This was supposed to be our last season. Season four was supposed to be the big crescendo. That is what Kripke had always explained to us. He had a very specific way that he wanted to end the show. As you know, that didn’t work out with the writer’s strike. Things got sort of pushed back.” Does that mean season five is the last time we will see the Winchester brothers? “Maybe Kripke will come in and wrap everything up in season five. I know there has been talk of that. It’s hard to say, though. With season four, the ratings have gone way up. We were supposed to be heading towards the end, but who knows at this point? He might want to keep it around for a bit longer.” |

| My Bloody Valentine 3D Cast, Crew Talk Sequel |
The cast and crew of My Bloody Valentine 3D told ShockTillYouDrop.com tonight on the film’s red carpet that a sequel is looking good. They said that you can expect all the surviving members of the cast to return for the follow-up should the film do well at the box office. Kerr Smith told us that director Patrick Lussier has a number of ideas where to take the sequel. “It’s been discussed, we’re working on that,” the actor relayed to us. “The way they leave this movie, anything could happen. I talked to Patrick the other day and he’s got some great ideas.” Writer Todd Farmer confirmed he has also been talking with Lussier about their narrative options. |

| Supernatural fans get their act together |
A few days in advance of the show’s mid-season return, Supernatural fans have launched their second annual charity drive/ratings ploy called Support Supernatural. The campaign aims to collect donations on behalf of the show’s hunky stars, Jared Padaleki and Jensen Ackles, and provide a little press for the CW show. Donations will benefit the Best Friends Animal Society and Make-A-Wish Foundation International, both great causes the actors have supported in the past. The groups organizers report that they raised $5,000 last year and are aiming for $10,000 this year. Donations on behalf of both actors can be made via SupportSupernatural.com or at Best Friends Animal Society and Make-A-Wish Foundation International The campaign runs until August 2009, so you have plenty of time. |
