| TV Review: Lucifer Rising |
A decent season finale as next season will be hell on Earth apparently.Awww man. I suppose the season finale of SUPERNATURAL “Lucifer Rising” did its job. I am left wanting more. Much more. But I’m also, admittedly, left a bit disappointed. As I guess I was expecting to see Dean (Jensen Ackles) play a bigger role, given he has been the centerpiece of the entire season. In fact, he didn’t play much of a role at all. The first half of the episode he is stuck in a holy prison by Zachariah and Castiel in order to protect him from the final leg of the journey that this season has been about – primarily the unlocking of the gates to hell in order to free Lucifer and unleash the apocalypse on Earth. We quickly are given what many of you have already deduced – the angels are just as bad as the demons they are fighting again. Zachariah tells Dean that all but one seal has fallen and that final seal has to do with Lilith. But Dean isn’t going to stop and kill Lilith and save Sam (Jared Padalecki) because the angels don’t want him to do anything. In fact, they want the seals broken. They want the apocalypse.
Why? Because they believe humanity is tainted and it must be wiped out and restarted and the only way to do that is unleash hell, wage a war on all of evil and cleanse the planet – thus creating a paradise. Call it a planetary enema. What was the final seal? Killing Lilith and having a mortal that accepted demon ways and blood to be the killer. Dean asks Zachariah what God has to do with all of this? The angel tells him that “God has left the building.” The being has no play in this at all. At least … not yet. See the angels feel that Dean will stop Lucifer and kill him. Dean will lead the forces of the angels against the army of darkness and defeat them. Thus creating this paradise. So Dean is valued by the angels for this very feat. They didn’t tell all of the angels about it because there would have been a rebellion, so most don’t even know the seals were being broken – something “upper management” of angels wanted to happen. In the end, Sam does indeed kill Lilith even with Castiel freeing Dean and sending him along the way to the Convent where Lilith was staying. Ruby saw to it that Dean didn’t interfere. Sam, of course, was clueless about all of this. He thought he would kill Lilith and stop the chain of events. But also as many of you have prognosticated, Ruby was lying to him all along and getting Sam to increase his demon powers in order to carry out the unlocking of the last seal. Sam even at one point asked if Dean was right about everything and had second thoughts about the whole process of killing Lilith and drinking demon blood. As the episode ends, a light from below begins to rise up and Sam says “He’s coming.” Again, I’m not that disappointed with the episode. Hell on Earth in season five? That sounds very interesting and how that develops will be extremely fun and brutal to watch. But I just was hoping Dean had a larger role somehow. I did like that Ruby finally got what was coming to her after all this time and deservedly so and that Castiel revealed himself to be the angel we thought it was. But where was Anna? She surely could have done something? Maybe she will have a larger role to play next season as will God maybe. One thing is certain, next season is looking really good as the evil versus good (or maybe even evil versus evil at this point) continues and even boils over. Source: ifmagazine.com |

I have to say that you and I have totally different takes on “Lucifer Rising”. I think Mr. Kripke is nothing short of genius as this episode had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I really didn’t know how things would work out and I thought the ending was perfect. Ruby is finally dead, the boys are back together and next season looks to be awesome. This whole season was great from beginning to end. Do I wish Dean has played a more central role in the last episode? Of course. But we now know it’s his job to stop Lucifer, so next season will probably be even more grueling for Jensen. I say…job well done to everyone connected with Supernatural.

The question about Anna- don’t forget last episode that she got captured by angels when Castiel betrayed her. I REALLY hope she comes back though.
I think Hell on Earth won’t last as long as we think it will. I think Lucifer will be gotten rid of in the first couple of episodes. Now that I’ve said this of course, it’s going to be the total opposite. But I think Zacariah and various other angels will be the big bad from now on, which I do actually like the idea of.

I loved that dean didn’t play a huge part, even though I love dean lol. it made it more surprising that sam played a bigger role than anyone could have imagined.
