TV Review: When the Levees Break

In the penultimate episode of the season, Sam and Dean go at it like never before

This was a long time coming.

The split between Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles). Ever since “Sex and Violence” when the Siren turned the two against each other and had them fight it out over its affection opening up a slew of worms between the two, we knew this day was coming.

“You walk out that door don’t you ever come back” the same line daddy Winchester used to Dean long ago was a fitting end to the episode.

A split between the brothers that’s as far as it ever has been. Sure they have had their differences before even to the point of splitting up the duo. But it has never been like this. Sam leaving in a huff, off to supposedly kill Lilith for revenge for sending Dean to hell and in order the stop the apocalypse from coming.  Sam thinks that Ruby is on the same page and is tracking Lilith down in order for Sam to have the confrontation with her and presumably destroy her.

But somehow, I doubt the intentions of Ruby. She’s been too shady when Sam has been sucking her blood, almost to the point where it seems she is serving another master – obviously Lilith or Lucifer – to get Sam to this point. How it shakes out will probably shown in the finale.

But we know that there is more to it. We know that the final seal to be broken that releases Lucifer has to do with Dean. He’s the only one that can unlock the seal, so we know that by Sam destroying Lilith it may not matter. Dean will still have to make the choice as to what to do.

But will become of Dean after whatever happens with the final seal? He already willing gave up his life to serve God and the angels. But what does that exactly mean? Will he come a vessel like Castiel? Or will he just be a servant following the will of God no matter what he wants for himself or his family?

My guess is that we won’t see much of this until next season. That may be the crux of next season in fact. We will probably see something in regard to this at the end of the next episode but from the previews it appears we will see the final battle with Lilith and the culmination of Sam’s transformation into a demon loving blood sucker. What will become of him? I guess we will have to wait and see but I would love to see them end the season at odds and in the second season have them face off against each other. How cool and different would that be?

Chances are good this won’t happen but hey would give the show a different twist.
