| How Did You Discover the Show? |
|
Every Supernatural fan has a story about how they discovered the series. Some people watched from the very first episode, others tuned in later after being pestered by friends, some caught up on DVD after a couple seasons had gone by, and a few people may not have seen a single episode before “Lazarus Rising” sucked them in. We all stumbled upon the Winchesters in a different way, and we all fell in love with the show for different reasons. With over a month to wait before Supernatural returns with new episodes, I thought it’d be a good time to share our stories about how we discovered this fantastic show. When did you start watching, and what got you hooked? The story of my Supernatural addiction is probably a bit different than most. I tuned in to the pilot episode on September 13, 2005, partially due to my love of the horror genre, and also because I had an affection for Jared Padalecki that carried over from his years on Gilmore Girls. I was immediately impressed. The pilot episode is dark, creepy, beautifully shot and filled with awesome brotherly banter. Unfortunately, the monster-of-the-week shenanigans in the next few episodes didn’t impress me as much. “Bloody Mary” and “Home” were amazing, but they weren’t enough to keep me obsessed. I gave up on the show halfway through its first season, not because I disliked it, but because I was busy and unsure of where the series was headed.
Boy, was I stupid. If you’re a TV fan, you’re going to hear about the quality shows somewhere. After a couple seasons, I couldn’t avoid hearing about Supernatural. People talked about the show on many of my favorite websites, and I really started to regret giving up on it. I didn’t remember a lot about the first season, so I decided to pick up the DVD set and give it another whirl. That’s when I got hooked. No, I still didn’t like “Dead in the Water” very much, but I was able to enjoy the monster-of-the-week episodes more the second time around. As we all know, the show’s mythology really starts to kick in halfway through the first season, and that’s when I was sucked in for good. Why had I missed out on all this greatness when it originally aired? I couldn’t stop kicking myself for my poor judgment call. I breezed through all the DVDs just in time to watch season 3 on the CW, and I’ve been a loyal Supernatural fan ever since. I may not have Jensen and Jared pillowcases, but I am completely obsessed with the complicated world Eric Kripke has created. I initially got into the show for its clever spin on the horror genre, but I’ve stuck with it because I find Sam and Dean so incredibly fascinating. Their relationship, their bickering, their inability to express their emotions to one another — it’s all so incredibly real. There’s a lot to love about Supernatural, but the main reason to watch is to see the complex bond between the Winchester brothers. I can’t think of another show on television with such an interesting familial relationship at its core. There are some people who think you’re not a true fan of a series unless you’ve watched it loyally from the beginning, but that’s not true. In these days of quick cancellations and shows that start strong and fade into oblivion, I think it’s fine to wait a while before jumping into something new. I’m thankful for all the Supernatural fans who kept talking about the show on every website I visited. Without them, I might not have given the Winchesters another chance, and I’d be missing out on one of the best things on television. Now it’s your turn. Comment below and let everyone know how you discovered the show and what got you hooked. Were you there from the beginning, or did you only get sucked into Supernatural recently? You started watching Supernatural:

I was thinking to myself one day that I should start watching a few shows that I kept hearing about! I do that every few years…and this time, ‘House’, ‘Arrested Development’, and ‘Supernatural’, were the three of the moment. So, I found them on Veoh, or somewhere like that – possibly tv-links. Anyway – the first few episodes got me hooked! I loved the brotherly relationship, the X-Files-esque themes and stories, and of course completely fell for Dean/Jensen! Within the next week, I had both finished watching the first two seasons (This was before season 3 started), and ordered the first two seasons on DVD. I now own the first 3 seasons, and am avidly watching the third! As for Dean/Jensen? Still drooling…with some added drool for John/Jeffrey Dean and Castiel/Misha!

I’ve started watching the show from the first episode on. I loved the first season!
Season 2, which is currently on air here in Germany isn’t that good I think. Maybe I just have to watch it on DVD rather than watching it weekly. I just don’t get into it. There is no real storyline like in Season 1, where they were looking for the demon who killed their mother… Hopefully Season 3 will get better…

I, like you was a Jared fan from Gilmore Girls. I’d also seen Jensen on Smallville, so I knew both of our boys before hand, and was a bigger fan of Jared at the time only because I watched Gilmore Girls a lot more than Smallville. When I heard Jared was going to star in a series I was so excited, and that Jensen was also going to be on it. I didn’t know much about it, just that they were going to play the two lead roles..
And then I was watching the WB and the promo came on. From that second I was hooked. I was never a big fan of the “horror” genre, but I had been a fan of Buffy and Angel and shows of the like and I found Supernatural very interesting. Little did I know how amazing it really was. I just loved the promo and how it showed the show, and then to actually see the show… I’ve been a dedicated fan since that day. I still have every episode recorded on tape the night it originally aired. I never miss an episode, I buy the magazine (just got the new one today!) and it’s just amazing. There’s not enough words for how much I love this show. I think it’s really a one of a kind show, and that Eric Kripke is a genius. I love how the show started out, I love how it grew and I love the amazing turn it’s taken this season. They’ve really stepped up their game and the show is even more amazing that I ever could have thought back on that amazing September day.
I really don’t know what I’ll do with myself when it’s over. Eric keeps saying season 5 is the last. I dread next year, and I doubt I’ll be watching very much TV when it’s gone. It’s the only series I make sure to keep up with these days.

I was bored and really needed something else to watch I had seen all the other shows up to date on tv and i was sick of watching tv with adds. So i started watching tv online. Can watch it when you have free time. Well i had seen a couple of minutes of super natural on tv when it first came out but never thought much however i had missed the pilot and thought maybe i’ll have a look and see if i seen the pilot perhaps i could get into the rest. Well now i have become completely addicted. i made my way through season one in a week and am now working on season 2. As well as that i am becoming an avid fan of Jensen… my god he is gorgeous! I remember the only reason i glimpsed dark angel was because of him. Simply delicious.
