| TV Review: ‘Wishful Thinking’ |
|
A magic wishing well gives everyone their hearts desire … well sort of Sam (Jared Padalecki) learned what we already knew on SUPERNATURAL this week. That Dean (Jensen Ackles) does indeed remember what happened to him in hell and whatever he witnessed, wasn’t pretty and he doesn’t want to share. Nor does he want to talk about it. And that it is driving him to drink in heavy doses. We, of course, know this as we have seen him suffering the pain of the ordeal over and over again as he tries to deal with it. But Sam, knowing it too, finally got Dean to admit it at the end of yet another hilarious episode of SUPERNATURAL that took a mean turn for the unfunny at the end. In Concrete, Washington, something is driving the town into chaos. While on the surface everything appears to be going well for most people. In reality, things are not good. An invisible kid is watching grown women take showers, a giant teddy bear is suicidal after gaining awareness, a dude won the lottery and a big nerd all of the suddenly has the hottest chick in town jumping his bones in public over and over again.
Turns out a wishing well is granting real wishes. Much of the chagrin of Dean after he wishes for a foot long with extra jalapenos. Wishful Thinking” really didn’t move us forward in the mythology of the show at all with the battle between heaven and hell and Lucifer unlocking the seals to hell to get free. But that’s OK since last week we had that episode that gave us plenty of information. Plus, the comedic episodes are always slam dunks and this one was no different with priceless moments with the teddy and the invisible kid and some pretty funny stuff with Dean (again), who is quickly becoming a lock for his own sitcom after the series is over. In the end, it came down to finding the first person to throw a magical coin (or evil coin as the case may be) into the well in order to pick it back up again to stop the cycle and return things to normal. Luckily, this happened just in time as the Winchester brothers were in dire straights right before everything got switched back. So far this season has been extremely strong and the stories keep getting better with a very interesting mythology. Hopefully they can keep it up as we move into the sweeps period.
